Framed Motivators

External Motivational Tip:

Surround yourself with whatever it is you need to hear that will keep you going.

My home office space; A little messy but there is something in this area that helps me keep working...

Some people respond to really direct words – “Go, NOW!”. Some people find really positive affirmations work – “I am filled with success”. Famous quotes can help – “Be the change you want to see in the world” (Gandhi). Little mantras always pop in my head when I’m working out – “Bit by bit”.

Find the words that will best guide you and put them in your environment. An easy way to do this is by framing your motivator and placing it in an area where you work. I did that by framing my personal motivating saying: “Bit by bit” for my home office area. The great thing about this project is that it can be changed as your needs change.

Follow the jump for a tutorial on how YOU can do this yourself:

Tutorial: Framed motivational quotes

1. Find a frame to use. I have an addiction to the clearance tables in the houseware department of Macy*s. Especially if it has ‘Martha Stewart’ written on it. So that’s where I picked up this set of pretty frames:

2. Double check the size of the ‘picture window’ of your frame. Don’t skip this step! I have screwed up many a framing job by just using the size written on the package. It takes two seconds:

3. Type up your words. This is where you can get creative with color, font and additional images. I thought I’d put each word of my saying into it’s own frame and play with the color for emphasis. I use ‘Page Layout’ templates in Pages and type my text in text boxes. Of course, any word processing program will work:

4. Print, cut and frame.

5. Voila!

I love this, Michelle! Maybe I’ll do something similar for the top of my piano. That way, not only will it motivate me, but my students as well. Thanks for the great idea!

I have a sign in my office that says “Do it now or forever wish you had”. While I try not to get caught up in guilt when I do procrastinate, it does motivate me to stay on top of things! Love your framed “bit by bit” :-)

Great post! I can see this as an excellent intervention for clients with self-esteem goals. Your pictures turned out great.

“Trust the process” is my mantra. A MT professor I had at AppState shared it with me. After processing what it meant I came to the conclusion that it is loosely based on Jung. I can sometimes perseverate on things I have going on, which leads to anxiety, so I have to remind myself to “trust the process.” My psyche isn’t going to let me experience something that I can’t process and learn from.
