I find that the most challenging thing with having a private practice and working out of your home is balancing your work and home tasks at the same time. It’s hard for me to work in my home office when I just saw that the bathrooms are a mess and there is vacuuming to do. (Not that I enjoy cleaning, it’s more like a nagging thought always running in my head.)
So I made a weekly schedule dry erase board that lists all of my weekly tasks so that I can check them off as the week progresses. I made headings of the major areas work is needed: Treasure Coast Hospice (where all of my private practice clients are from), Online (my blogs), House (cleaning), and Self. Then I have a short list of the things that I want to do every week… for example: I try to have 2 blog posts per blog per week; exercise 3 times per week, etc. I even remind myself to have fun every week. (Is that strange? I just really love working and I have to remind myself to NOT work sometimes.) Two weeks are actually pictured on the board… that way I can work ahead and feel really good about myself.
It was really quick and easy to make – all you need is a piece of paper, a picture frame and this tutorial from Prudent Baby. (This is the same way I made the Handsome Message Board, too.)
How do you keep your week organized?
