A common instrument in the music therapist’s instrument bag is some kind of hand drum. Mine happens to be the Remo Hand Drum 2.5X14 (as pictured to the left). Many Remo instruments (including this one) have a thick, ribbon-type material that is on the outside of the drum and covers up the area where the drum head and drum frame are attached.
Well, the ribbon on my drum fell off one day. The drum was fine, just less attractive looking and sticky in the area where the ribbon used to be. I couldn’t put the same brown ribbon back on without using more glue or some kind of fastener. I’m always wary of experimenting when it comes to instrumental repair… I don’t buy the cheapest instruments; I buy the best for my clients so I don’t want to go trying new things on it willy-nilly. Knowing me, I’ll end up damaging them more.
My solution was to get an extra ribbon from my craft supplies and press it on top. Seriously, that simple. The drum was already sticky and the ribbon was thin. So, they both took to each other quite well.
Kind of pretty too, don’t you think?
I’m feeling pretty clever with this solution. I’m sure you’ve been just as clever…
What are some of your instrument quick fixes?

What glue did you use?
I didn’t have to use any glue. The drum was still tacky where the old ribbon was and the new ribbon is very thin. Guess it was enough stick for a flimsy ribbon.
