Sigh. The other day I packed up my guitar and shipped it to it’s manufacturer’s repair center. The bridge cracked along all of the string pegs. Luckily, it’s an Alvarez and that type of repair is under warranty.
This experience has taught me a few things that I believe you should know as well:
- ALWAYS keep a copy of the receipt. The company required me to send it to them.
- Try getting the box at a music store. So, with pretty much all guitar manufacturer warranties YOU have to ship your instrument to their repair center. I don’t know about you, but I don’t have huge, guitar shaped boxes at my home.
- Consider shipping it through FedEx. It cost me $42.00 to ship my guitar. That’s including the insurance. (I know that is something you are wondering!)
The biggest thing I keep thinking after this whole ordeal:
I’m so glad I bought LOCAL.
I happened to get this guitar at a local music store: Jam Music. I am so glad that I did! They helped me with this whole process… I didn’t know anything about my instrument’s warranty – they filled me in on it… I didn’t have my receipt – they printed out a copy for me… I didn’t have a crazy, big guitar box – they gave me an extra WITH bubble wrap. What a big help!
Of course, whether my guitar gets fixed and sent back to me in one piece is another story. I’ll keep you filled in with how all of that goes!
