Have a set of conference goals.
Why are you going anyway? Is it to get CMTEs? (Which, by the way, you can also get here.) Is it to meet people? Is it because there is information about a certain topic that you really need more of? Is it just because you had the extra cash so why not?
Whatever your reason is, really take advantage of the opportunity that you have of actually being at conference and set up goals for yourself. If your reason is for CMTEs, maybe your goals could include completing an umbrella grouping. If you want to meet people, maybe your goal can be to for you to introduce yourself to three new people a day. Need to know more about a topic? Maybe instead of just attending those types of sessions you can also attend the research poster session.
This way you are sure to really GET something out of this annual event.
