Make up an elevator speech about yourself.
Seriously! We’re all familiar with the ‘about music therapy’ elevator speech. (If you’re not, here are some speeches from other music therapists.) Well now you are at conference and meeting a lot of people. They are going to ask you about yourself and you’re going to have to give them an answer. Be prepared. A lot of times, people ask me “Michelle, what have you been up to?” Hearing that often stops me in my tracks… “hmmm” I think.. “What HAVE I been up to?!”
So, to avoid that deer-in-headlights look AND to stay on top of my conference goals, I have a simple list of talking points of what I want to tell people about myself. Then, when they ask me about myself I proudly share with them.
This year my talking points will include:
- The Boom Tote – Because it’s better than ever and I really think it can help people
- MusicTherapyPro.com – Because we’ve added a lot of perks that weren’t there last year
- That I work in a hospital – Because I really want to connect with other MTs who work in hospitals too
- (And I’m sure my pregnancy will end up somewhere in the mix too.)
So, how about it… what will you say about yourself?
